Anyone wanting to show off their new cool box this summer is advised that there are numerous events taking place across the UK which are perfect for a picnic.

The Daily Telegraph has compiled a list of the top ten, featuring entries to suit all tastes, whether people prefer food festivals, concerts or simply relaxing in the sun.

Among the suggestions is the Caerphilly Big Cheese Festival at Caerphilly Castle between July 24th and 25th, which features a cheese race, fireworks and folk dancing, while the Chastleton House Summer Garden Party in Oxfordshire on July 26th offers treasure hunts and live jazz.

North of the border, there is the Gathering at Edinburgh's Holyrood Park on July 25th and 26th, promising athletic competitions, Highland dancing and storytelling.

Theatre fans may enjoy a Midsummer Night's Dream at Bodiam Castle in East Sussex on August 1st.

Anyone heading to these events is advised by BBC Food to fill their cool box or picnic hamper with treats such as Greek salad, bruschetta and couscous, or, for those with a sweet tooth, chocolate brownies and muffins.
