Locals in Aberdeenshire gathered together to enjoy a barbecue and the 10th annual fireworks festival at Johnshaven harbour at the weekend.

The festival, which was set up to dispel the January blues, is organised and funded by local residents, the Press and Journal reported.

Although the fireworks were due to be held on January 10th, the severe weather meant they had to be postponed.

Speaking to the newspaper, Bobbie Still, owner of The Ship Inn, said residents were determined that the heavy snow would not stop the festivities.

"This is our 10th year. It was started on the millennium with a few fireworks," she said.

"The village wanted to carry on the tradition. I think everybody likes fireworks. It's really good," she told the newspaper.

Visitors were able to enjoy a barbecue before local fire dancers Fire Poise performed for spectators at the harbour yesterday.

Johnshaven is set on the picturesque coastal plains of the Mearns, around seven miles north of Montrose.
